2011 saw 100 years of tourism in Jelsa, as the town's first hotel, the Jadran, opened its doors in 1911.  

A fun event for all the family takes place every October in Jelsa, as local children show off their cycling skills at the annual Biciklijada.

July and August may be the most popular time to visit Hvar, as tourists flock to the beaches and enjoy the excellent nightlife, but there is plenty on offer throughout the year on Hvar.  One of the most interesting traditions to experience is the Easter Procession in Jelsa.
