Velo Grablje
Once the centre of lavender production for the whole of Dalmatia, Velo Grablje, like many villages on Hvar, has suffered from severe depopulation, and today has a full-time population of just five.
Despite the sparse numbers, the village is undergoing something of a renaissance due to the efforts of local NGO Pjover, whose mandate is to revive the traditions of the village. The undoubted highlight is the annual lavender festival in June, lavender ice cream and all!
Located just below the old road from Hvar Town, between Brusje and Selca, Velo Grablje's setting is spectacular, and a dirt road continues down to Malo Grablje and Milna.
