Hvar Resident Publishes Authoritative Sports Injuries Self-Help Guide

Tucked away in the hills of inland Hvar, there is a magical treatment room, which has been converted from a konoba. It is known by many grateful Hvar residents, whose various ailments have been treated by retired Croatian physio Vivian Grisogono.

Grisogono, who lived and worked for much of her life in London, before retiring to Hvar several years ago, enjoyed a successful career, both as a physiotherapist (including being the physio for the British Olympic Team) and a writer on sports injuries.

The first edition of Sports Injuries: A Self-help Guide, written in the 1980s, was critically acclaimed and became the authoratitive work on the subject.  Here are some critiques of the first edition:

  • Sports Injuries' is likely to become a standard 294-page classic of commonsense. --Ian Wooldridge, Daily Mail
  • Clearly written in language which everyone can understand and copiously illustrated, the book should find a place in every athlete's library. --Athlete's World
  • Every chapter contains invaluable information for both amateur and professional sportsmen, as well as trainers and teachers. --Sports Industry, London

When not treating Hvar patients and engaging in other island activities, Grisogono has been beavering away on an updated version of the original tome, and it is finally ready for pre-order on , with a publication date set for February 28, 2012.  The second edition is being produced by Lotus Publishing.
